Mizan online news agency, affiliated with the judiciary of Iran, announced that the prosecutor of Tehran declared a crime against a female director and a movie actress because they didn’t do obligatory hijab in a public place.
Rakhshan BaniEtemad, the famous director of Iranian cinema, and his daughter Baran Kosari, a well-known actress, attended a film review ceremony in Tehran without the obligatory hijab. The prosecutor of Tehran immediately declared a crime against them after the publication of the photos of these artists in the media.
These two artists stood by the Iranian people in the Women- Life-Freedom movement and protested the interference of the religious government in people’s personal lives by publishing their photos without hijab. After months have passed since that movement, the Religious Government is making great efforts to erase the effects of the signs of social changes and restore the living conditions in Iran to the past, however, people -especially famous figures like these two artists- always disrupt the policies of the government in a civil and non-violent way.
Rakhshan Banietemad (born April 3, 1954, in Tehran, Iran) is an internationally and critically acclaimed Iranian film director and screenwriter. She is widely considered a premier female director and her films have been praised at international festivals. Banietemad won the best screenplay award for “Tales” at the 71st Venice Film Festival in 2014.
Baran Kosari (born September 16, 1985) is an Iranian actress. Kosari has received various accolades, including two Crystal Simorghs, two Hafez Awards, two Iran Cinema Celebration Awards, and two Iran Film Critics and Writers Association Awards.
